This precise approach is especially effective for enabling comparison between sloped frame designs (with increased top tube slope or e. g. lady versions) and “clas- sic” variants – because the top tube’s gradient is completely ignored as a reference parameter. To define a frame’s stack and reach mathematically, bottom bracket and headtube are utilized as fixed measuring points: From the intersection of two geo- metric lines (one running vertically and directly through the bottom bracket’s cen- ter, the other horizontally and directly along the headtube’s upper edge), the reach is measured horizontally while the stack runs in vertical direction. The quotient of stack divided by reach enables effective comparison and allows conclusions with regard to the bike’s individual characteristic as well.
